MOUNT
GILEAD, OHIO, U.S.A., June 23, 2003 – While the “been
there, done that” phrase is often over-used, it does
provide a clear message: I know what you are going through.
And, in the case of Taylor’s Support Services, it has “been
there and done that.”
“Whether
you have one or 100 machines, everyone who is in manufacturing
to make a living is under pressure. We have to be responsive
and truly understand what customers are facing. And we do,” said
John Beary, general manager of Taylor’s Support Services.
Taylor’s
Support Services provides the entire after-the-sale support
a customer needs, from parts and service to repair, remanufacturing
and adding upgrades.
Beary,
who worked for the former HPM Corp. in the mid 1990s and
joined Taylor’s to head TSS in February 2002, has the
day-to-day experience of running his own business, as well
as operating a manufacturing facility. In addition, other
members of the TSS management staff have manufacturing experience.
Though
TSS’s primary role is to service and support HPM Division’s
injection molding, extrusion and die casting customers, it
acts as a stand-alone business unit within Taylor’s.
“ Our
job is to understand and fully support the production requirements
of our customers,” Beary said. “We have our own
engineering manager and a staff of engineers dedicated solely
to aftermarket support.”
Beary
said a dedicated engineering staff is uncommon. With some
machine manufacturers, staff engineers often must divide
their time between product development and new machine manufacturing
and aftermarket support.
“ While
our primary focus is to service installed HPM machines, we
do service other manufacturers’ machines for replacement
parts and machine upgrades,” Beary added. “We’re
well-suited to work with customers no matter what type of
machines they have – hydraulic, hybrid, all-electric,
no matter what.”
TSS
supports customers in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan with factory
technicians based in its Mount Gilead, Ohio, headquarters.
Throughout the rest of the U.S. and into Canada, TSS has
a service provider network of 20 technicians.
“ We’re
not quite where we want to be in the reach of our provider
network,” Beary said. “By the end of this year,
we expect to have the network fully established to where
we’ll be able to meet our goal of having a technician
in a customer’s facility within 24 hours of a call.”
Beary
noted that most of the TSS service providers are former HPM
service technicians.
“ We
support our network technicians with training, technical
information and spare parts,” Beary said. “Compared
to a centralized system or even a regional network, local
and individual service providers are more in-tune with customers
because they tend to serve a smaller customer base.”
In
addition to North America, TSS has a network of technicians
serving Mexico and Latin America, China and Europe.
